ProActive's main ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide, a trusted acne cure for many years. BP specifically targets the bacteria that causes pimples and therefore can dramatically reduce breakouts and swelling. HOWEVER, BP is not at all hypo-allergenic. It's main side-effect is over drying, and without the natural oils on your face, pores will loose their natural protective covering and therefore allow MORE bacteria to enter. ProAvtice has reduced the concentration of BP from the normal 5-10% to 2.5% and although this may reduce the risk of drying and reddening I have never allowed my patients to use BP all over the face. I do not say ProActive doesn't work, it may work very well for people who have NORMALLY oily skin (bear in mind acne tends to make our face APPEAR oily although that is not our natural skin type). If you have dry to excessively dry skin, or are allergic to any or ProActive's ingredients, I can only advise discretion when using.
