Spironolactone does affect the male fetus, so DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BECOME
PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is not a warning to be taken lightly by any woman in the reproductive stage of life. If you
take this drug you must take every precaution against pregnancy. Your physician will go over this with you but consider
yourself warned. I took this drug for about 4 years, suffered no ill consequences and did acquire a nice complexion very
quickly; I did not, however, have cystic acne. Over the 4 years I gradually reduced the amount I took, alternating between 1,2
and 3 tablets a day, occassionally skipping a day. I stopped the medication in Feb.99, the acne is back in a somewhat subdued
form, and I'm considering going back on it. I was told by my dermatologist that the medication would discourage facial hair
and alpoecia (sic), which are very nice side benefits, but i'm frankly more concerned with the possible organ damage. I had
blood tests every 6 to 12 months and no ill effects were discovered, but I don't know about latent ill-effects. I would like to see
more long term studies myself. Good luck AND DO NOT GET PREGNANT.
