: HELLO EVERYONE OUT THERE, WELL I GOT MY 10YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IEP TODAY AND IT SAID THEY FEE SHE MAY HAVE ATTENTION DISORDERS, WELL I, AM TOO SURPRISED, SHE SEEMS TO BE OK AT HOME BUT I DO KNOW THAT ONE OF HER BIGGEST PROBLEMS IN SCHOOL IS STAYING ON TASK AND LEAVING THE OTHER KIDS ALONE! I FEEL THAT IF SHE COULD STAY FOCUSED SHE WOULD DO MUCH BETTER (IN) SCHOOL. SO NOW HERE IS MY QUESTION: 1)HOW DO THEY TEST FOR ADD/ADHD? WHERE DO I START? 2) I, AM AFRAID OF PUTTING HER ON "DRUGS" THAT SCARES ME ALOT ARE THERE OTHER OPTIONS OUT THERE? 3) I GUESS I JUST NEED SOME HELP! IF ANYONE CAN POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION OR OFFER THERE OPINIONS OR SUPPORT I WOULD APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH!
: THANK YOU IN ADVANCE,
: ANGELIQUE

Angelique, Go to the library or bookstore and get any book they have available on ADHD by an author named Russell Barkley. Dr. Barkley is an expert in the field. His books are very helpful..not just for medication, etc., but also for managing behavior. He also has also made a video tape that is excellent. I sympathize. My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD at age 5. She is now 10 and has just begun taking Adderall...hang in there...even if you have to try MANY things..you will eventually find one that works for your child. Best wishes, Richelle
