: PLEASE HELP . I'M DESPERATE. I HAVE PRIMARY INSOMNIA. IT'S FAIRLY RARE AND VERY LITTLE IS KNOWN ABOUT IT. BASICLY I WAS BORN WITH INSOMNIA AND IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY AND DRASTICLY GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE YEARS. I HAVE EXTENSIVELY TRIED EVERYTHING. AT IT'S WORSE IN 3 DAYS I WOULD GET 15 OR SO MINUTES OF SLEEP. MY EARS WOULD RING MY HEAD WOULD HUM AND I COULD ALWAYS FAINTLY HEAR MUSIC PLAYING IN MY HEAD. MOST DR'S ARE NO HELP EVEN AT SLEEP CLINICS BECAUSE THEY TRY TO DEAL WITH MY INSOMNIA LIKE ANY OTHER AND UNCOMPATIONATELY AND MOST DR'S KNOW NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT INSOMNIA.I HAVE FOUND SOME WAYS TO BARELY KEEP MY HEAD ABOVE WATER BUT IT'S NOT ENOUGH EVENTUALLY YOU CAN'T TREAD ANY MORE. BUT I FOUND SOME HOPE IN A BOOK OF INSOMNIA BY DR'S WHO DEDICATED THEIR LIFE TO THIS RESEARCH. THE SAD THING IS THAT OF THE HUNDREDS OF PAGES ONLY 2 OF THEM WERE ABOUT PRIMARY INSOMNIA. THERE IS JUST NOT ENOUGH KNOWN ABOUT IT. BUT WHAT IS KNOWN IS THAT THERE ARE ONLY TWO THINGS THAT MAY POSIBLY HELP AND HAVE HELPED OTHERS WHO WERE RESEARCHED ON. ONE IS ELAVIL OF THE MANY DRUGS IV'E TRIED BUT MY OTHER DR GAVE ME WAY TWO HIGH OF A DOSE. THE DOSE TO TREAT CLINICAL DEPRESSION WHICH I DON;T HAVE..WHICH USUALLY CAUSES NORMAL INSOMNIA.I HAD NO CHANGE AT ALL EXCEPT DRY MOUTH.TO HELP WITH PRIMARY INSOMNIA IT WILL ONLY WORK AT ABOUT A TENTH OF THAT DOSE. WHICH WOULD NOT PHASE DEPRESSION BUT CORRECTS SOME CHEMICAL IN PATIENTS WITH MY DISORDER. MY NEW DR DOES NOT WANT TO PUT ME ON ANY MORE ANTIDEPRESSANTS. THATS NOT MY PROBLEM AND IVE TRIED SO MANY THAT HE WANTS TO GO IN OTHER DIRECTIONS. BUT I BET EVENTUALY WE'LL COME BACK TO ELAVIL AT THE RIGHT DOSE AND TRY THAT . THAT I COULD TALK HIM INTO .A N D FINALY THE REASON I'M HEAR.

: RITILIN IS THE ONLY OTHER DRUG THAT CAN CURE PRIMARY INSOMNIA. BUT MY DR DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT AS REGARDS TO PRIMARY INSOMNIA AND SO CAN NOT PRESCIBE IT. THE BOOK DID MENTION A LITTLE ABOUT A.D.D AND INSOMNIA. SO IF THERE IS ANYBODY OUT THERE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT RITILIN AND IT'S RELATION TO MY PROBLEM PLEASE GOD HELP. WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT DOSE TO TAKE, HOW OFTEN, AND WHAT TIME OF DAY. PLEASE PLEASE HELP.
Todd, in www.familyclinic.simplenet.com you will find that Ritalin is used in the treatment of narcolepsy - because of its ability to prevent you from falling asleep. One of the most bothersome side-effects is the insomnia that sometimes results. It doesn't seem right that it could be prescribed for an insomniac. I'd be suspicious, and keep looking for another alternative.
