In Reply to: Adderall dosage debated by doctor posted by Patti L. on January 22, 2000 at 22:58:00:

Patti,
I've always understood dosage varies from person to person. In fact I do take 10 mg of methylphenidate 2 x a day and it is adequate. I've known (through support groups) adults who take your husband's dosage.
You might ask the doctor for the reference of the recent research or even the article. There is a lot of medication research these days. You might also explore the idea of addiction in your local public library. Addiction generally means you develop a need to take increasing amounts of the medicine to the point where an addict might use a month's supply in less than a week.
In my own case I've been on my dosage for about 5 years. If I'm not careful I forget to take my pm dose. This is not addiction; it is the opposite of addiction. But I'm sure if you research the issue you will see either that there is no danger or that there is--your husband is using more and more medication. If so, you will know exactly what to do. Knute.
