: : : First of all don't be so quick to think he doesn't have ADD. My son is also bright when it comes to certain things like computers and has an awesome memory. I would never have even suspected ADD if a teacher hadn't suggested it for the things they were noticing in school. Why not take your son to the doctor and ask for a referral to a clinic that tests for ADD. If he does have ADD no one says you have to medicate as their are altenatives to try. Wouldn't it be better to get him tested and should he have ADD give him all the help you can?? Would you not test your child for something like diabetes just because "you don't think they have it"?? I for one had never given ADD a thought for my son as I always thought of ADD as strictly ADHD. Good Luck.

Obviously, since he won't complete a test , he is. But he is also choosing what he won't complete... And it's not consistant either....His tests were fine before Christmas, but slacked off after the break.

: After reading more of your posts I do have a few comments. Your son may do fine on timed tests at home because this is a 1:1 situation and there are no distractions like there are in school such as other kids turning pages, a teacher walking around, coughing or sneezing etc. When there are distractions like this an ADD child totally loses his train of thought and has a hard time getting back on task. Also testing for ADD is not a psychological test totally. They use a computer screen to administer the tova test which involves reaction time and ability to stay on task as well other things. I wanted to clarify this since many people seem to think that testing for ADD involves all these psychological tests which in fact that is a very small part of it.
Hi, I can't offer any help, but I've been following this post and would really appreciate it if you could let me know how things went after you take your son to the doctor. My daughter's, 2nd grade,teacher wanted to have her evaluated for ADD. After many sessions with an ADD counselor we found out that my daughter wasn't so much ADD as she just needed to believe in herself and encouraged. The teacher sends home daily reports on how she is doing and this seems to keep her on task. However, I am facing the same thing with my son who is Kindergarten. He has been very hyper, will not take responsibility for his actions, "I didn't do it" or "It was an accident". The teacher is basically telling me to get my kid on Ridlin or get him out of her classroom. I have trouble with him at home to a certain extent, but I also see how much he concentrates on building things, he is very creative, and how empathetic he can be when "mom doesn't feel good". I really would like to know how it goes with you. Thanks
