In Reply to: How long should I wait to see results? posted by Tina on February 13, 2000 at 00:59:31:

: My 8 year old son has been on adderrall (2.5) for 4 days now. Although he has not been seen by a psychologist for testing yet (appt in March) his pediatrician highly suggested we start medication based on his school records. I am not sure whether I am see good or bad results. He has not shown any signs of insomnia, however he does seem "wired". Is this normal and will it go away? I spoke with the doctor on Friday and he said to continue this dose through Monday and on Tuesday increase it to 5 mg. I am not sure if this is the right thing to do. I am struggling with whether I should have waited to have him tested in March before starting meds. Any suggestions, ideas, words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

I am wondering how they expect to get accurate test results if your son is already medicated. As for how long before you see results ........that depends on the each individual as we all respond to medications differently. Read the literature that your pharmacist gave you with the medication and it may give you a better idea as to when you might expect to begin seeing results. Also if he is having adverse reactions such as being wired you can always call your pharmacist to ask if this side effect will eventually disappear if that isn't mentioned in the literature he gave you. If you still have concerns about the medication being used before testing contact your doctor again and discuss this with him.
