: My son is 12 and has ADHD . He is now in Junior High.
: We as a family has looked for medical doctors that are
: specialized in this field and in our area there is not any. Only those who think the medication Ritilan is the answer to all the problems.

: If there is anyone out there that has any answers please let me know.

Where are you located? I can try to find something for you, but can't promise anything. We've got some specialists in the Washington D.C. area (2 hours away), but not around close to me. I'm almost willing to traverse that distance to get some adequate help with my problems.

I do think that medication is a good PART of treatment, but not all of it. I think that the medication makes it possible to work on the problems and minimize them. I think that's the first step - the rest has to come afterwards. By saying "the rest", I mean behavioral management. Without the meds to help reduce the impulsivity problems, the behavioral management probably won't work very well.

I do think that finding a good specialist is very important - I'm finding that no one (even psychiatrists) in this area are very well-versed on ADD. For such a common disorder, I find that to be inexcusable and we need to work on educating people about it.
