: :MY 12 year old son is on Adderall and also has been very violent and aggresive. He is like a Dr Jeckel Mr Hyde, this is so sad for me to see. If my son doesnt get his way, he starts destroying his room and breaking everything in there. He has even broke his glass window. I truly believe that this medicine is effecting him this way. As far as the school, good luck because my son was put into an alternative school and he had all his IEP's. If your in Hillsborough Cnty, you have to keep fighting.
I'm sorry to tell you this but it is very scarry. I am the mother of an eight year old boy who was diagnosed ADHD when he was 5. He was first prescribed Adderall but this increased violent beahvior and his aggression. He was then switched to Ritalin and has been on it ever since. He is currently on a total daily dosage of 25mg (15 in the morning and 10 at lunch time). For the past month, it is like he is on no medication at all. He is struggling to complete daily classroom assignments and is constantly in trouble for disrupting the class (outburts, getting up out of his chair, etc.) His teacher is not very ADHD friendly and I feel as though he is constantly singled out. He does curently have an IEP for the ADHD and does go to a Special Education class one hour a day to assist with his reading and organizational skills. Is anyone familiar with the school guidelines for disciplining children with ADHD? I am very aware that ultimately my child is responsible for his actions but most of the things he is being called down for are manifistations of his condition. I would appreciate feedback from anyone with information or personal experience re. this situation. Thank you :-)
: If the medication appears to not be helping the way it should then yes it is time to go back to the doctor to see what they want to do about this. They may want to increase it or maybe add something with the ritalin or change it all together. As for your problems with the school system I would talk with his principal and see what they have to say and take it from there.
