In Reply to: Adult:Adderall Not Working, Switch? posted by Janet on March 17, 2000 at 09:23:53:

: I have been working my way up on Adderall for over a month. I started at 2.5 mg Adderall 1x a day and am now at 20 mg 1x in the morning. There is no effect at all. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. It's been hard to be patient for these weeks, because I want to experience the clear-headed life! I am considering asking to switch to Dexedrine. Any thoughts?

: Thanks.

First you need to read the literature the pharmacist gave you with the adderall to find out how long it takes to start being effective. If you can't find that info then call the pharmacist and ask. Some medications do not start showing effect for 2 weeks or more. If you still feel you need a change go ahead and see the doctor but I would be hestitant to tell him what drug you want him to prescribe. I would tell him how things are going right now and ask him what he recommends and WHY he recommends what he does so that you are fully informed. Since you would like to try the dexedrine you could mention this to him but ultimately I would go with the doctors decision since he knows your overall health and current medications. Good Luck.
