: I have an eight year old son. His school referred me to a psychologist for testing due to behavioral problems, and he has been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. His grades are A's, but his behavior is a problem in the classroom. His achievement test scores are extremely high (98-99 percentile) and his IQ is 148. At home, he has been sort of a behavioral problem, but he is an only child. My wife is a stay at home mother, and works with him on his assignments and watches his behavior. She and I had a conference with his teacher this morning, and she thinks he should be medicated. The psychologist thinks that medication might be worth a try, and has referred me to a child psychiatrist. Everything seems all right now, but my son says he doesn't want to take medication. I am concerned because we feel it might help him with problems he experiences. I feel sad when I see him working on homework and throw temper tantrums. I feel bad that my wife has to watch him do that every day.

: Does anyone have any advice, or has anyone been in a similar situation such as mine? Please advise us.

: -Tim
