: My 3 1/2 yr. old son was diagnosed with "oppositional" ADHD a few months ago. We first tried Ritalin and now Adderall which helps control his hyperactivity and out of control social behavior but doesn`t help with his defiance. He has had tantrums that have lasted 3-4 hrs. screaming with pure rage. This is the hardest to deal with of all his symptoms. He is down to 45 mins. maximum with the screaming. I can`t help but feel that he is going to be scarred emotionally from all the screaming not to mention after the first 10 mins. my husband and I feel like doing something evil to him. I really would like to know if other ADD children have this problem and if there is anything that can help it. We have gone to parenting classes, have very consistent discipline, medication, and a structured day for him (as well as appealing to God for help!). I would really like to talk to a parent who is raising or has raised a child like this..

i have a child who was exactly like the one you are decribig except he didnt just scream he said ugly things like "i hate you i am going to kill you in your sleep you are a b**** " ect he is now 15 no help from school dr or anyone and we are looking for residential treatment center for him as i write this. the best advice i can give is to get as much help that you can from church members and friends and family you will need the back up . keep pushing for someone help. have you had a brain scan run and psyc evals done they may find that there is more going on than just add and odd . with my son they have also found odd/cd, ad/rad bipolar and adhd which all rolled up into one make life real difficult to deal with. please keep fighting for your child if you dont noone will and helping him when he is young will save you from fighting wih a 5'11" 220 pound 15 year old with the same behaviors and more that you are dealing with now. hope i didnt scare you but this is what i am now dealing with. good luck and God bless!
