Some questions to think about:

Why would you accept that diagnosis, and what is the disadvantage of parents that are still together in a loving and supportive home?

He is 16, do you have a right to control what he puts in his body at this late time in his life? In two years isn't he able to legally leave your home?

Is trying to control him going to make his life better or might it drive him away from your values?
I have no answers for you, but I am sure those answers are in your hearts.
