: My son just started Adderall, and I wanted to hear from other parents what they thought about the drug. Is it better than Ritalin? Are the side effects severe or mild? Has their appitites incresed or decresed? How are their children doing on the drug? Has it helped their children with their school work? Thanks so much for your time.

Cindy,
Adderall is a drug, this you know. But the dangers of the side effects are still unknown. My son was on ritalin and after a year of that not working, they wanted to move on to adderall. I simply refused. You mentioned that you wanted to give him benedryl for him to sleep better. Is this what we mothers have been reduced to? Giving our precious babies one drug to counter effect the other? This is not what you wanted for your son? These teachers and doctors have gotten by with this long enough. He's not paying attention in class because he doesn't understand what the teacher is teaching. He feels bad and ashamed because the other children in the class are learning and he is not. And because of this, he acts out to get attention so that he may also feel important. Take a second look. Do your own research. Take him off the meds for a week and see if you see a difference. Just some advice from a Mom who has been there. Good Luck!
