In Reply to: Pros and cons of taking adderal on weekends and summer vacation? posted by Penny on July 06, 2000 at 14:19:44:

: My 12 year old is taking adderall, and I'm hearing conflicting info on whether she should take it on weekends etc, or not. Any opinions about this?

If the Adderall helps the symptoms that affect things at home then I would definately keep giving it during his off school time. You are giving it to help with problems much in the same way someone with Parkinsons takes medication to help control their symptoms. There symptoms do not go away on weekends or during summer vacations etc and neither do the symptoms of ADD. I know there are a lot of people who do not agree with this but for me as a nurse I cannot justify letting the ADD go untreated on weekends or summer vacation unless they don't pose any problem in the home situation.
