My son is in 2nd grade. Each year his teacher has told me how he is the LAST student to get his work done and how he spends so much time off task. I am not sure what approach to take with him. I don't want to come down hard on him and punish him for not paying attention. I don't know what to do. I am beginning to wonder if he has ADD. By no means is he hyperactive. In fact, he is quite shy! I have often wondered if it is just a maturity issue, but i am scared. He gets good grades on most of his things, but he seems to not test well under certain circumstances. I know he knows a lot of the things that he gets wrong, and his logical reasoning and math skills are oustanding. Another part of me wonders if he has a learning disability. I imagine I need to see a doctor, but I am so afraid of getting overdiagnosed or being labeled. I have been a high school teacher for the past 10 years and have seen the difficulties some students have. I am so worried. He is such a good kid and I don't want to see his confidence shot. I need advice.
