In Reply to: Someone please help! I have just been told that I may have ADD & I am 50 yrs. old! posted by SammieJ on September 21, 2000 at 10:39:56:

One good place to start is a with a board certified social worker or psychologist who has a special interest in ADD. They can't prescribe medications, but if they have been in your area a long time, and have a good reputation, they will know the best psychiatrist for the job.

In my experience, starting with a randomly picked psychiatrist is a bad idea because you don't really know how much he knows about ADD. A good psychologist or social worker would know the best one in your area.

If you can find one who maybe has ADD himself (as did my social worker) its even better. They would defiately know the best doctor to go to.

I hope I have helped in some way
