My son was prescribed Adderral last year after my husband and I had the umtenth meeting with his middle school teachers, who suggested that our child, who had been receiving A's, B's and C's for the past five years of his life, be placed in the Special Education Program. Unfortunately, all the scholastic honors attained by this group of true professionals, never prompted them to suggest that there may be something wrong. Especially since this child was now barely getting D's on assignments that were most often incompleted, had very little organizational skills for a child his age and an abrupt attitude problem when challenged by a situation that he felt uncomfortable with. After one week of testing and counseling at a clinical psychologist office, he was diagnosed with ADHD, predominatly inattentive type Anxiety disorder secondary to attention problems. Short of everything, my son was able to bring his grades up from D's and F's to B's and C's, past to the seventh grade, and is now doing well. I spent allot of time blaming myself for not realizing that something was wrong with my child, but figured that the teachers and staffed persons at his school were knowledgeable enough to realize that a child who comes from a stable and healthy enviornment with all the comforts and amenities a boy his age would want,
would be able to sense that there was an imbalance somewhere, but they had no idea. I'm ever so thankful to the Psychologist who helped us get through this and hope that my placing this information on the board helps other parents reach out to their children and not expect those who have titled educational positions to do so. Good Luck.
