Hi, Tabitha -
My son is almost 10, and he's been taking Adderall for about a year. Prior to Adderall, he was taking Ritalin, but we wanted to try Adderall because we've heard that you should really try both to see which works best. We've been happy with Adderall - I notice a significant difference between the time before he takes his dose, and a half-hour later. He's able to attend to his work, sit still and concentrate in class, and get along with other kids. He is not lethargic or tired or groggy. He enjoys recess and gym as much as other kids. He eats as much as other kids, also. He's not depressed - in fact, he's happy because he's not frustrated with school and homework and in social situations. Without the medication, life would be terribly stressful for him.
I've seen many posts on this board saying meds aren't the way to go, but they have made such a great improvement in my son's quality of life, I feel it would be neglectful for me to not allow him to take advantage of the wonderful help that Adderall provides.
