: : : My daughter is only 6 years old and was told that she has adhd when she was only four. I do not understand how a doctor could say that with out testing her. I have kept her off her medicine for about two months she was doing so well. but now she is back in school and is having some problems. They say she is not learning. I do not know what to do. I don't want to put her back on her medicine. Any suggestions?
: : Take her in for testing to see she indeed does have ADHD. If she tests positive they will recommend the best course of treatment for your daughter and you can decide where to go from there. Make the appointment to get her tested now while it is still early in the school year. Good Luck.
: thank you for your reply, I wish I knew where to take her. I don't think our family doctor is the right person to decided what she has. Also what tests will they do?
Ask your doctor to a referral to a clinic that does testing for ADD/ADHD one of the tests they use is the tova test. You can do a search for it on the web for more info on how this test is done. They also have you fill out a questionaire on behavior now and as a baby etc. to help determine conclusivly if this is what the problem is or if there are other things involved. The tova test was the real clincher for my sons diagnosis of ADD. For my daughter the tova test showed that she had ADD tendencies but was NOT ADD. For her counseling was recommended since she is not ADD. If you need help finding a clinic in your area that does ADD testing let me know and I will see what I can come up with.
