: Okay, well since about 6th or 7th grade, I've thought I was Add. Now I am a 16 year old 10th grader. I have just recently confronted my 'rents about add in relation to me. I went to my councellor at school and she told me although she couldn't diagnose it, it sounded like I have add. Well, so I told my parents this too. My mom just took the Conners test, and all my teachers were questioned on what they thought. They all think that I may have a slight case, but nothing severe. However, they DO NOT UNDERSTAND! I've been terribly shy my whole life. I've been so to the point where when I was younger I was afraid to even speak... let alone let on in class that I was havign difficulty. At home I've always felt pressured to be a perfect kid. (Middle of four very brilliant children is hard to live up to!!) Well, no one seems to really believe that I have a severe case of this. Everytime I go through the symptoms it is a distrubing reminder of what all I've gone through my whole life. Everybody seems to believe that since I'm not a distrubance in class or even a great deal of a fussbudget, (but it is worse now as I'm older), that it just is not so abotu add. What can I do?? I'm feelign so alone on all this lately! Thanks! email your responses if possible!
The first thing you need to do is ask your parents to get you properly tested to be sure that ADD is what you have If you are sure they won't take you to be tested then maybe you could ask your counselor if she would draft a letter to your parents recommending that they get you tested. Once you are tested they will recommend the best treatment for you. Please note that your shyness is not something that a pill will take care of........that is something you will have to work on your own. Good Luck
