In Reply to: CONCERTA NEW FORM OF RITALIN posted by Lisa Farmer on October 07, 2000 at 10:45:56:

: My son has been on Ritalin for 3 years. The only problem is that he has experienced quite a bit of weight loss. This has concerned my husband and I so the doctor says that there is a new medicine out called "concerta". This is where you give your child 1 pill a day and it sits in there stomach and releases throughout the day. It is said to be better than the former Slow release form of ritalin. So far he is on 35 mg a day and I am noticing only a little over hyper activity late in the evenings because this only lasts for 12 hours. SInce this is new, if you have or know anyone that is taking this, please let me know of any things you can tell about the medicine and if it seems to be working well for you.

My son has recently been diagnosed with ADD and was started on Concerta about 2 months ago. I have nothing to compare this drug to but I am also concerned about weight loss. I give the medication to him after breakfast and he does not eat anything until the medication wears off (12 hours). Even after 12 hours his appetite is no where close to where it was before starting to take Concerta.
