In Reply to: trying to justify getting a diagnosis........ posted by donna on November 07, 2000 at 11:36:03:

: I have struggled all my life with what now appears to me as ADD: Never working up to my potential, (as they said), living with chaos, not putting forth any effort to maintain a friendship, alcohol abuse and addictions. (luckily the 10 yr stint I did with alcohol ended when I got married and had kids.)
: I never realized that my brain is working overtime, I've never had anyone else's brain so how would I know?

: How do I admit to myself and my family that I need help
: and there really is a reason for all of this? I know I can't live like this any longer. What do I do? Who can diagnose this? A GP?

I see no harm in a diagnosis. Anything you find out will only of benefit don't ya think? Is there someone you are trying to justify this to?
