I'm an adult female with ADD who is currently on Dexetrine (previously on Adderall). Here are tips to help your medication work well for you: Take it at the same time(s) every day; don't drink alcohol; get plenty of aerobic exercise; eat protein; get plenty of sleep; stay away from "energy enhancing" herbs or foods (including caffeine!) and cold medications like Sudafed preparations or nasal sprays. These can increase your heart rate, neverousness or contribute to anxiety. There are definite interactions to avoid. When I need to take a cold medication, I forego the Dexetrine; make sure you discuss with your doctor, any heart problems you may have. I have heard that taking these types of ADD medications can potentially damage your heart over time. DISCUSS THIS POTENTIAL WITH A KNOWLEDGABLE PHYSICIAN WHO IS EXPERIENCED IN TREATING ADD!
