: I have ADHD and have finally "hit the bottom" with Ritalin. The first year, my grades were up and my teachers, parents, and myself were relieved to have found a solution. The second year, I finished college and everyone was commenting on my great work. Little did they know how I took a couple more pills to help me do a little better. Now I am employed and find myself getting to work late in the AM because I did not get enough sleep. I'm too thin, my emotions are a reflection of Ritalin and not me anymore. I finally broke down this weekend- called my parents and said enough is enough. They are happy to know that their sedated child is leaving and the happy one is returning. Ritalin is so addictive because we recieve so much praise for our good work when we are on it, and treated like we are too scattered off of it. Its okay to have ADHD and treat it with something else- I'm looking into a natural alternative. Does anyone know of anything that could help?
It would take too long to summarize them here, but there are some diet oriented regimens for ADD out there (under the theory that 50% of ADD is caused by dietary toxins). There are also some 'traditional' Chinese herbal+dietary restriction treatments--talk to a doctor of Chinese medicine--often they are also acupuncturists.
