I was started out on Ritalin - diagnosed at 25. Almost anyone with ADD will tell you not only is finding the type of med. somethings a long trial and error period, but also the dosage. Personally, I was on Ritalin SR (generic) 20mg 2X a day. I was taking it for a month and went back to the doctor and said it wasn't really working. Looking back on it, it was working. I just didn't realize it until I was put on a med that really wasn't working (dexidrine). Its effects kind of snuck up on me and, yes, I was a 'new man'.
This is a really really really bad thing to do, but before being diagnosed I tried some of my sister's adderall out of curiosity (she's also ADD). I was amazed, an undescribable amazement. My concentration felt like a laser beam, intensely focused.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, some work but creep up on you, some don't work at all, and if you're lucky you'll notice its effects right away.
Alcohol and ritalin - tried it once and didn't have a good experience BUT I was also on antidepressants and that is WELL KNOWN not to mix with alcohol - My bad experience was due to antidepressants and not the ritalin.
Sex and ritalin - didn't notice anything odd, wasn't impotent and craved it just as much as I had before. :-)
