Hello Worried Mom,

Although ADD is a somewhat grey area for alot of schools and doctors, there are a few who specialize and have very distinctive symptoms. Our daugher has ADHD and we have dealt with it for 4 years now. I can't really remember all of the symptoms, but there are at lest 12 clear traits, and 3 or 4 more physical problems that are almost always associated with it. Usually when the diagnosis is made your child has to meet a certain number of the symptoms. I would suggest you call a local child psychologist, and ask if they can mail you some literature on these symptoms. Some of them are very distinct, such as, stigmatisms, oppositional personalities, sometimes eating disorders, etc. I think a little research will give you a good idea of your situation. Once we started reading about it it was very clear to us that we needed to have our child tested, and as a reference it was also clear that her siblings were not exibiting the symptoms at all.

: I am a worried mom of a 12 year old son. He is very bright young man. But when it comes to school and following instructions well thats a total different story. He HAS to be the center of attention in class, but never complets his assignments. He is VERY smart I have seen him get A's on his achool work but when he loses interest which he has he is no failing. I can tell him to clean his room and write a note and he doesn't do it. Am I just being overly concerned or what? PLease help...thanks
