Hi Susan..

I don't live in the Portland area but I do live in Southern Oregon. I have a 12 year old in Middle School that has ADHD and has been medicated for several years.
I would like to communicate with you and find out what the schools in Portland are doing to help these children (that is if your child is in school). Sometimes I feel
as if the schools here only put a label on them and want to rid them from their classrooms, rather than take the necessary steps to provide these children with a good,
quality education. The school that my son attends wants to put him in a Special Education classroom where they do not get electives, nor have any exposure to other
children that do not have ADHD or learning disabilities. I feel that this only puts a harsher label on the student and cause more ridicule of the student by 'normal' kids.
Personally, I would like to see the schools make a more concerted effort at helping these kids and identifying that they do need to be taught a bit differently. The changes
that they can make not only would benefit the ADHD kids but would more than likely enhance other students ability to learn as well.

What kinds of concerns do you have regarding your child(ren) and ADHD?

: hi,

: just wondering if there are people around portland, or, who would be willing to exchange information, talk about issues concerning add/adhd or just to connect as parents of children who have difficulties.

: susan
