I have a question about Risperdal. My daughter is 7 and she has FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) as well as ADHD, but the primary concern is the FAS. FAS is sort of like ADHD but with a wicked twist.

My daughter has been on Ritalin since she was three. For the past month or so her behavior has become increasingly aggressive and bizarre and I admitted her to the hospital this past Wednesday for observation and treatment. That was the hardest thing I've ever had to do!!;o( She was taken off all meds and evaluated and they switched her to Risperdal. The new med helps her brain function better, however her speech is off, she looks like she is drunk or stoned, her gait is off and she just doesn't seem right. The staff said with any new med there are trade offs. But this sort of trade off seems too extreme for me to take. I visited with my daughter today and it was hard not to stare at her...noticing how different she is since she's been on the med.

Do any of you have experience with Risperdal? How long do the side effects last? Is what my daughter going through normal??
