: I'M A FATHER OF A CHILD THAT 13 YEARS OLD WITH ADHD AND ON RITALIN. I AM DIVORCED FROM HIS MOTHER BUT I HAVE JOINT COUSTODY OF HIM. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TALK TO HER ABOUT TAKING HIM OFF THE RITALIN BUT SHE WILL NOT LESSON TO ME. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT CAN GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ON THE FINDING ON LONG TERM USE OF RITALIN HE HAS BEEN ON IT SENCE HE WAS 7 YEARS OLD.

: THANKS.

I have a couple of suggestions. First off is the Ritalin still helping control your sons symptoms? If they are then your concern about long tem affects is something you would need to ask your son's doctor about. Secondly if you take him off the Ritalin what do you plan on doing instead of the Ritalin to help him with his symptoms?? These are all issues that should be discussed with your son's doctor and any counselors or teachers that are involved as well as your ex-wife and son. Address your concerns with every one involved so that you can all make an informed decision on this matter and be ready to decide what will be done for you son's ADHD should you opt to take him off the Ritalin.
