: My 5 yr old son is having trouble at school concentrating on his work. The teacher says he is bright but his attention span is very short. He doesn't listen properly and needs one-to-one to finish any work. He has responded well to a reward system.
: He has always been a very lively child. He never walks, always runs. We don't take him for days out now because he always runs off and refuses to do as his told. We don't take him to friends houses because he always rampages through, checking out all the rooms and all their things. He sleeps well and can be well behaved if he has the right motivation. Does this sound like a ADHD child? I don't want to waste time by delaying a diagnosis, but I don't want him on medication unnecessarily. Any advice would be great.
Read the basic add facts posting on this board - this sounds lik,e a boy who needs some discipline and some kind of reward sistem. once they have ADD in the school file, the school will call him special ed forever! make sure you get second opinions.
