: My 5 yr old son is having trouble at school concentrating on his work. The teacher says he is bright but his attention span is very short. He doesn't listen properly and needs one-to-one to finish any work. He has responded well to a reward system.
: He has always been a very lively child. He never walks, always runs. We don't take him for days out now because he always runs off and refuses to do as his told. We don't take him to friends houses because he always rampages through, checking out all the rooms and all their things. He sleeps well and can be well behaved if he has the right motivation. Does this sound like a ADHD child? I don't want to waste time by delaying a diagnosis, but I don't want him on medication unnecessarily. Any advice would be great.

WOW time to back up a bit here. First off take your son to his doctor and ask to have him tested for ADD/ADHD. Once the he is tested and if it should show he has ADD/ADHD then you need to discuss the treatment options that have been recommended for your child. That does not necessisarily mean medication. First and foremost though is the need for proper testing.
