I just happened across this message board while doing some research on Hyeractivity and drugs given for it. I have a 4 yr old daughter who is out of control. We've been seeing a child psychologist off and on for 2 years. We have been trying avoiding medicating her... we've even tried herbal rememdies that seemed to make her behavior worse.
Every place I look it says to NOT medicate our children. In fact, some of the info scares me. My problem: I have gotten to a point where I am now seeing a psychiatrist for clinical depression, partly because of dealing with her behavior 24/7. We are seeing the best child psychologist in our area (and are paying quite a bit of money for him I might add), and he is now recommeding medication. In the last two years, we have literally tried everything. My husband and I are getting to the point where we no longer have patience.
This is the only option left. I'm afraid if her behavior continues, I may hurt her someday. I have kept my cool for over 2 years, and don't know how much more I can take. My husband and I have done so much crying lately, and my depression certainly hasn't helped much. Everyone says DON'T MEDICATE!!!! But what are parents like us supposed to do? Is there anyone out there that can give us good news about medicating their child? There is nothing left to try.
