: : My 6 yr old daughter was diagnosed with ADHD today, and the doctor said the only thing they can give a
: : child of this age is Ritalin. And every time I mention putting her on Ritalin to someone, all I get is
: : horror stories. She doesn't concentrate in school, she daydreams alot and very active. She doesn't keep up with the other children in her work. So I don't know if I should just let things alone and see if she gets better or if I should try the ritalin. Help
: I for one think it would be worth it to try the Ritalin or if you feel uncomoftable about this particular drug get a second opinion from another specialist to see if they can't recommend something else to try. To let your child flounder and continue with problems is not any help at all. If you wind up deciding against medication at all then you owe it to your child to try some other techniques to help her with the ADD. Doing nothing and hoping it will correct itself is not the answer. I too found as Dee did that homework and even just getting my son to remember what he actually was supposed to do for homework was a battle. We have him on medication but are also working with his teachers on his weak points such as getting homework done. As with Dee if you have any questions leave me a message here..
I have the same problem only my 7 year old son has been on Ritalin for about 3 weeks and I feel that he is very angry. School is getting better but not by much. I see changes in him sometimes I think I am paranoid. There is a natural alternative it is called Pycnogenol. I have to do more research but I may try this there arent side effects like ritalin. I am totally lost and I dont want him to have a terrible school experience.
