: my husband is addicted to dextromethorphan found in certain cough syrups.ive tried to help him all i can
: he wont seek treatment.its been bad for about three
: years now.once he even ended up in the hospital and
: almost died. i dont know what to do and i am more and
: more stressd out.if anyone can help me please send email. thanks.

I was addicted to cough syrup, but tussionex (which has vicodin), not DM. Is this just over-the-counter DM preparations? There's basically nothing you can do, short of forcing his hand. He needs to be at his bottom. My bottom was jail and almost losing my family. I also lost my job of 20 years. However, I can report that today my life is better than it has ever been. Are others identifying any personality changes in him? You do have options. Intervention is one. Kicking him out of the home unless he seeks treatment. It all depends on what he deems important to him. The worst thing you can do is keep it a secret. Get others involved. I have no idea if anything I said makes any sense to you. It won't be easy. He will be mad, predictably. But, you can't continue to enable his drug use. He's not only hurting himself. You and others he loves are being affected daily. You're on the right track. I have lots of info if this tidbit has been of any help to you. Mike
