i too was addicted to afrin for about 2 years... i finally went to the doctor when i was using it about once an hour (it was 12-hour spray) and he prescribed flo-nase for me. for about 2 weeks, while the flo-nase kicked in, i had to use both afrin and flo-nase. then, i stopped the afrin and it worked! i still use flo-nase, but i only need to use it once a night before i go to bed... so once every 24 hours, which is much better than having to keep afrin in my pocket and use it during school and movies and while driving. good luck kicking this - it IS real, and it can be stopped! i relate to the anxiety, too... i'd worry that i wouldn't be able to breathe, and i'd get frustrated, so i'd have to use it. you will be able to get over that, too. try flo-nase or saline spray... good luck!
