In Reply to: i would really appreciate the advice!! posted by erin on October 04, 2000 at 16:52:03:

: I was diagnosed with addison's in april. I was supposed to go skydiving for the first time but couldn't go because it was when i started to get really sick. They have my money, and it's good for up to a year. I asked my doctor about it...he doesn't recommend it. He didn't say i couldn't do it, but there is a chance my body might not be able to handle the stress, and if anything happened, he wouldn't want it to be on his conscience. I still really want to go...i just figured i could take extra meds, and be fine...am i crazy? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!!

I know how you feel. I would like to try it too. I don't think I have addison's though. Just mild adrenal insufficiency which is responding pretty well to natural treatments. Still, even though it will be fun, your body is still going to interpret it as stress. The body doesn't know the difference between "good" stress and "bad" stress. Therefore, it would no be a good idea. Why don't you treat your problem for a while, get it under good control, and see then how you are feeling. You could really set yourself back. Jumping out of an airplane has got to put a great deal of stress on your body and mind. Your heart will pumping like crazy and you will get a rush of adrenaline. Anything could happen. I sympathize but you know you would be putting yourself at risk. I think this advice makes sense. Don't you?

Rich
