I live in the UK and have had Addisons for seven years. In that time I have had three
hospitalisations owing to Addisonian Crisis - one of them after exposure to Chickenpox.
Long term effects have been a slight weight gain - generally kept in check by exercise and diet,
a strong liking for salt and a tendency to a more blotchy, dark type of suntan. Also, tendency to
tire more easily and not recover from infection/illness so quickly. In hot weather hands and feet
tend to slightly swell. Current dosages 20mg hydrocortisone, 100 mcg fludrocortisone,
calcium tablets to reduce chance of Osteoporosis.
I have been concerned owing to birth of child and breastfeeding of child whilst taking medication
- child small with slow growth/weight gain and frequent respiratory infections. Doctors have said
not linked to medication - any info on this?
