My neighbor has had some contractors at their house that their insurance company has been overseeing their house construction to make it handicapped capable for the husband. My husband who is a licensed plumber went by the house because originally they wanted him to do the plumbing but the insurance company demanded that their contractor do the job. I am so disgusted as we went over to their house only to see that the contractors had taken down load bearing walls and the house was a disaster. The bathroom in which they were redoing they had attempted to put countertop formica as a shower wall and attempted to put rals up on sheetrock with no backing of wood to make them safe. This makes me sick that an insurance company, a conractor which also had sub conractors working for them could put this elderly couple into so much distress. We advised our neighbor to call our community assocation and yes all the people on the job have been run off. Were can these people go to for help. The insurance company has already put $9,000.00 down and the contractor has basically taken the money and run. At this time the elderly couple can not live in their house and are now staying at our other neighbors house. Who can help them, basically they have a home and it is not liveable in the condition it is in. This family has been devistated by the illness all by itself without this additional disaster. In addition they have caregivers that are also at our neighbors house to take care of the him and have 24 hour careivers taking care of him. What and who can possibly help. Without the neigbors house and friends they would be homeless. How can people get away with taking advantage of people like this. If you know of any help I can seek immediately without him going to a nursing home please help!!! Thanks, Jan
