Hi all...
I am a 36 year old female...and up until 5 years ago I never had any symptoms of allergies. In fact I used to be a heavy smoker but quit two years ago. I have been suffering from a SEVERE stuffed up nose for about 5 years now...my Doctor said it was because I moved from Lake Superior region (quite cold there, not much grows such as pollen, etc.) to the breadbasket of America area...North Dakota. Anyway, she prescribed Clariton D which worked wonders for about 9 months. Then she switched me to plain Clariton...that worked ok for a few months...but now neither works at all. I am stuffed up about 90% of the time...people tease me because I talk funny...like I am plugging my nose. I LIVE on Benydryl...I take about 3-4 Benydryl tabs every 3-4 hours round the clock. (I wake up at night and feel like I'm choking...so I take more Benydryl). The Benydryl does help a little bit...but only lasts 1-2 hours at best. My doctor has basically told me that I have to live with this...does not feel that I am allergic to anything in particular. But she has never done any tests on me. My husband wants me to go to an allergist, but I am a bit apprehensive, especially after reading scarey postings about shots, etc. If anyone can give me some advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
