: I need some information about allergic reaction to yellow dye #5. Is there such a thing? Has anyone experienced it? What's the reaction?

From Pete:
My son who is 8 yrs. old now has severe reaction to yellow and it seems red dye also. He usually behaves like any normal kid but can quickly become hyper, uncontrollable and very aggressive for no apparent reason. We have determined that a certain type of dye in cheese(probably yellow dye), and some candies have a very negative effect on his metabolism. We try to keep items with red and yellow dyes away from him. We had him tested for allergies but the tests did not find any. It may not necessarily be an allergy per se but an intolerance. Is there any competent doctor out there who has done research and admitted that this dye business is affecting the population in unimaginable ways ?
Pete :)
