: : I need some information about allergic reaction to yellow dye #5. Is there such a thing? Has anyone experienced it? What's the reaction?

: Recently, my daughter (3)experienced a reaction to yellow dye causing a severe asthma attack and she had to be taken to the emergency room 2 times in one day. If anyone else has had such an experience please print a response.

I am allergic to yellow #5..I too have a reaction that is somewhat like an asthma attack. I am very careful as to what foods and cosmetics that I choose to use and usually stear clear of anything that says "May contain the following" or if it says "certified colors." Its very tedious to read the back of each and everything I buy to see if it has yellow dye, but I do and my family has begun to be more careful about the foods and cosmetics they buy that I might use. I have reactions that range from breathing difficulty to rash to chest pains. Any of those really depending on what yellow dye (#5 is the worst) or how much I injest. If I use lipstick with yellow it blisters my lips. I am glad to know that I am not the only one who is a sufferer of this allergy. If there are other symptoms I would like to hear about them.
Thanks, Tanner
