I too have been trying to sleep propped up, but always end up lying down anyway! I've been getting very wheezy in the middle of the night and my asthma spray has no effect. I cough and think that I have a lot of mucous in the back of my throat that I just can't shift. I find that I have to get up for about half an hour before I feel well enough to go back to bed. I feel that my physical position has everything to do with it, but I really want to know what causes it. I have mnay allergies, including to house dust mite, but it's only recently that I've had these symptoms. Even my asthma was very mild before the last few months, and I took my spray probably about once a fortnight. I take nasal sprays and have experimented with mot taking them just before going to bed as I used to, but I don't think that's made a real difference. I've just posted a message about this probelm to the Asthma message board, so keep your eye on that for any ideas that might be posted there.
: : For the past 3 years or more, every spring I would start feeling ill around May or so. Like I had the flu or something but didn't. Throat always felt scratchy. Then each year the symptoms got worse and went into other things. Last year I had thick mucus in the back of my throat starting in March and in May ended up with bronchitis and near pneumonia. Doctor said he thought it stemmed from a sinus infection of some sort. I have face pain off and on, right in front of my ear by the hairline. It is sharp pain and sometimes wakes me up at night it hurts so much. When I get that the flu feeling comes back. I never have gotten entirely rid of the thick mucus or post nasal drip although it lessens sometimes. Eating meat and dairy really makes it bad. When I wake up in the morning it is there and I have to cough but only once or twice. Then I sneeze for a minute or two. Doctor thinks its allergies of some sort because of the timing. Any ideas?
: Lindi, these are classic signs of allergies. Go to an allergist the sooner the better you will feel. Pollen, ragweed, hayfever something along those lines is probably the cause. Most likely pollen. I have been dealing with these symptoms for years and allergy shots help. Don't let these allergies get worse or you could end up with bronchitis again. Also have the pain by the hairline checked it could be sinusitis. this is extremely painful. I get sinusitis and it is extreme pressure to the sinuses especially the bridge of the nose and forehead.
: Heres a hint to help you sleep a little easier try sleeping propped up a little. Do not lie flat on your back. with the post nasal drip I found if you sleep with your head tilted up the sinuses tend to drain easier and put less pressure on them. Good luck and let me know how you are doing.
