In Reply to: IS THIS AN ALLERGY? MY MOTHER NEEDS HELP! posted by kate on July 15, 2000 at 17:19:25:

: My mother has been having this problem for 2-3 years and has been to several doctors and nothing has helped. No one even knows if this is an allergy.
: Her tongue will swell, sometimes just part of it and sometimes all. It swells so much that she has difficulty breathing and must breathe through her nose. Sometimes her face swells also to the point that you cannot recognize her. (I am not exaggerating)! This lasts from a couple of days to a week and varies in severity, but always leaves her extremely tired. This may happen once a month for a while and then nothing for several weeks/months. Is this an allergy or nerves perhaps? Any help anyone could give us would be greatly appreciated. She is getting very discouraged and I am very worried about her.

Sounds like angioedema. Use search engine and sites like Dr.Koop, adam.com, etc. I wouldn't rely on random advice from random strangers. Were the doctors that were consulted specialists/board certified internists/allergists?
