: My husband has experienced severe hives on and off for about 5 years. At it's worse, I've rushed him to the emergency room due to breathing difficulty- his airway was swelling. He has been to an allergist and has not been able to identify the allergen. We believe that it's always at bay but when his immune system is otherwise compromised it acts up. He experiences some relief on Benedryl but can not take it during the day because it makes him too sleepy (he's primary caregiver to our children during the day). He's been on Prednisone for a lengthy time but wants to avoid going through that again. Currently he's agreed to go back to the allergist but I'm interested in information about boosting his immune system. Does anyone have similar stories? He's not an aggressive person by nature, unfortunately it means he's not very aggressive when it comes to his health. Please email me if you have any suggestions.
I have been going through what your husband's going through for the past 5 months. I have been to the ER and went through 4 rounds of prednisone. I will never go back on this steroid -bad news! I went to an allergist who did allergy tests on me. All were negative. I cannot quite pinpoint what is causing my breakouts. It is definitely frustrating so I know what your husband is going through. I am scheduled to get a full physical done by my doctor including a blood work up. Has your husband had this done? If my doctor can't find anything after the examination and blood test then I am going to start researching on herbs and/or vitamins that can boost the immune system. I have heard some interesting things about this approach and I want to learn more about it. If you learn any new information please e-mail me. Thanks and goodluck.
