John,
Have you tried physical therapy. I am currently going to a physical therapist for muscle spasms and trigger points in my neck, shoulder and back.
She works on the muscles for about 45 minutes, than shown me exercises to help stretch out the muscles. It has done me a world of good. She has given me easy, not strenuous exercises that do not take up a lot of time, which of course, everyone is short on. Good luck.
