In Reply to: Exema - food allergies? posted by Angie on August 27, 2000 at 13:30:42:

: : I have some food allergies which include chocolate, dairy products, possible wheat. I am having problems with exema it's bad all over my face, arms and torso. I have cut out these foods almost completely. I am still having trouble, I have tried just drinking apple juice for a couple of days which helps clear things up temporarialy, but it just keeps coming back. I have tried eliminating other foods such as tomatoes carrots breads. Anybody have any ideas as to what I should try next. Is it possible that it is stress? Any information anybody could give would be appreciated

I totally agree with the Cara before me. At the age of 2, I had my daughter tested for allergies. She is allergic to trees, weeds, grasses, shellfish, peanuts, cats and soy products. She also suffers from eczema and asthma. These things usually go hand-in-hand. Her trouble spots for eczema are her ankles and her wrists. I just try to let her soak in a tub practically until she's wrinkled and then I lube her down really well with Vaseline. This seems to work the best, because anything with perfume in it, just makes her break out in hives. I've also found that Aveeno work well. Her doctors have always told me, the slicker she is the better.

Also, what Mary before me said about stress making eczema worse... definitely!!! When my daughter doesn't get her way, she immediately starts to scratch. A lot of times she scratches out of habit and doesn't even realize it.

Now that I've rambled enough, I've learned there is a lot of info out there to read. I also found a great website for the Eczema Association - www.eczema-assn.org I've looked here and there is good information.

God Bless,
Cara E.
