: I had acrylic nails for about 9 months and then developed an allergy. The skin around the cuticle became swollen, blistered, and itched horribly. I had them removed and and waited for about 6 months before trying them again. I was able to leave them on for about 4 days before the previous reaction became unbearable. Not wanting to give up, I waited about a year and tried again. That time I couldn't even leave them on one day. The last time I tried acrylics was about 9 years ago. Does anyone know what I could have been allergic to and if maybe some of the products used with acrylics have changed for the better? Thanks

I had the same reaction, mine would swell and hurt and itch and finally peel very deeply. It took almost the entire two weeks (before they needed doing again) to get past the problems of having them done. I had to quit wearing them. I am told the gel nails probably would be my answer, but they are twice as expensive, so I just stopped and have grown mine out instead.
