: I break out in hives when ever I am: near the ocean, standing in water (pool, lake, ocean, river), near an AC vent, holding something cold, ingesting something cold (hives in my mouth), in the path of a breeze...sitting on an aluminium chair that isn't warm...you name it- I'll get them! It's always cold that sparks it all off.
: Is this possible? What is it and what can I do? My dermotologist wants to put me on Alegra 2x daily, forever. I DON'T WANT THAT.
Hi..Yes..this is called Cold Uticaria (Hives)..You are allergic to the cold..my brother is also..he has to avoid anything cold..when he goes out he has to put a scarf over his face..this is the only thing that helps him..he has had this for years..Histamine is known to be responsible for this raction..I understand that antihistamine can control some of it..I don't think I would want to take it every day though..unless you really have to..I would go see a good allergist instead of a dermatoglogist..Hope this helps..Good Luck..Daisy
