Dear all
I have had similar attacks of lip swelling in the last month, and have been unable to identify a common cause (i.e. food, additives, cleaning products etc). In some cases, facial swelling is caused by a rare allergic syndrome called 'angio oedema'. It can be hereditary (my mother suffers from it)or can just appear for no reason. Sometimes it can be triggered by exercise, drugs to treat heart conditions, food, drink, etc...It appears to be caused by the lack of an enzyme which controls histamine.
Clare - maybe your father should ask his doctor about this option and get checked.
Hope this helps.
Tracey
